FAQ'S

The following information should answer most of your queries but if there is something we have missed please let us know.

Showroom

We do not have a retail showroom as all our products are produced to order and are despatched as soon as they are ready and our craftspeoples workshops do not have display space.

Sizes/Designs

We show specimen sizes and designs on the website but our strength is in making or adapting many of our products e.g. mirrors, furniture, stained glass etc., etc., to any size or design you require.

Weights

All our mirrored items are substantially made of at least 3mm thick glass and mounted onto wood backs or carcasses which give the required support or framework for the mirrored pieces.
For example a VM3 Topaz Venetian Mirror size 140cm (55") x 70cm (28") weighs around 21 kilos.
Stained Glass and Art Works are not as heavy but will need to be adequately supported.

Delivery

Deliveries in the UK are made by trusted carriers or individual couriers as required. Overseas packing and shipping is carried out by experienced specialist companies.
Unless previously arranged, we do not unload or shift heavy items and you should make arrangements for this to be done. You will be advised of the delivery date and in some cases an approximate delivery time.

Exports are packed by an experienced firm who make the packing to fit each item and shipping is arranged by a long established local company.
We are not responsible for any duties or taxes due on your purchase and cannot advise on this.

Insurance

We carry extensive insurance cover for the items we dispatch. Any claims must be notified to us immediately you receive the item and all packing retained with the item for examination.

Fixings

Each mirror is supplied with a chain for hanging and you can replace this with large brass mirror plates if preferred. If additional fixings are needed you can use a split batten, where 1 half is screwed to the wall and the remaining half to the back of the mirror - the mirror half fits on top of the wall mounted half.
Fixing to brick walls depends on the quality of brick, and the longer screws or hooks you use the more substantial the fixing.
With partition walls if you can screw into the studding this gives adequate fixing and if between the studding two Rawlplugs (M5 x 40 Interset) spaced at each side of the mirror will support a 24 kilo weight.
If you are concerned about fixings please discuss this with us and we will endeavour to provide a solution.
Stained Glass and Art Works are not as heavy but will need to be supported either by window openings or frames when you install or hang them.
Mirrored pelmet / Valance boxes are heavier than unmirrored ones
so we supply them with a solid wood back which can be screwed directly to the wall.
Alternatively you can screw mirror plates to the back of the box and then screw those
to the wall. Always use long enough screws and wall plugs to get a good fixing.
The type and size to use depends on the construction of your wall etc.
Do not forget the weight of your curtains and track when deciding how to fit the boxes.
Clean the mirror glass as recommended under mirrors.

Safety

All mirrored products are adequately packed for handling and shipping, where appropriate. When delivered by us personally they are not packed so that the handlers are aware that they are mirrored and should be handled with care.
It is your responsibility to handle glass and/or heavy items in a safe and sensible manner and to ensure that you do not suffer any physical strain or injury when lifting or moving items.
When in doubt…Don’t. and take it slowly .

Storage of Mirrors

You should always store your mirror in an upright position as you can. Make sure that the edge of the mirror does not come into contact with the wall etc., or the floor. Preferably store against a wall or a heavy non movable item such as a table, cupboard or similar. Choose a firm flat surface if possible. Always place something soft, blanket, cushion, or even a piece of polystyrene block on the floor before setting the mirror down. Make sure you put a flat part of the border or frame at the bottom so that the mirror does not slip sideways, If the bottom is shaped put a wedge (a block of polystyrene, wood or similar) on either side of the shaped part to stop it sliding sideways. If possible wrap the mirror in fabric or plastic sheet to protect it. We use an old blanket.

Aftercare

All glass will scratch etc., if mistreated and you should always treat mirrored items with respect. Always polish lightly as this creates a good sparkle without harming the glass
We recommend that you use a liquid spray cleaner rather than a cream and polish with a soft yellow duster. Any grease, oil or similar substances should be removed with warm water and detergent with a non abrasive cloth before polishing. Adhesive from labels etc., with white spirit on a non abrasive cloth before polishing.
Mirrored furniture - the exterior surfaces are generally mirror covered so treat them as above. The external painted or polished drawers and big surfaces should be cleaned with a good quality furniture polish using a soft cloth. When vaccuming or cleaning around mirrored furniture legs or base, care should be taken not to hit the edges or faces of the mirrored areas.
Wrought Iron which has not been painted or lacquered can be very lightly oiled to protect it from moisture. Where it has been painted or lacquered it can be cleaned with suitable detergent and re-coated as required. Make sure you don't spill the liquids onto your other surfaces.
Paintings etc., placed behind - the glass can be cleaned in the same way as you clean windows etc. Unprotected art should only be cleaned by the appropriate expert.
Glassware/crystal should be displayed or used safely and cleaned in warm soapy water, dried and polished with a soft cloth.
